Mixed Feelings. What exactly was the point of this article?

For people who are having money problems it is a misery loves company sort of story. For the young it is morality tale of what happens to people who are careless with money. Many people will just feel smug because even though they are not rich they did not get into financial trouble when the economy crashed. I don't think people will feel sorry for him.
