? about Hospice.....My friends father is terminally ill and lives in another state.?

My Friends father's girlfriend has POA for his health care. He has Pancreatic and liver cancer . We just saw him and he can not speak much due to pain and all the pain meds...he also is 6 ft and 120 pounds. Very ill. Per the girlfriend she said he does not want Hospice to come in. Maybe at some point he will want them.?? What does Hospice do for him and for the family ??
