Painting Dorm Walls Idea?

I'm going to college this upcoming fall and noticed that the dorms are really...drab and dull. I thought it would be cool to paint them, and paint some areas with chalkboard paint. The only thing is, thought, I don't want to have to repaint the walls white again. So I was wondering, if I wanted to paint just some small areas with blackboard paint could I lay out some painters tape (the blue one) on the wall and then paint over the tape so I can just peel the paint off the wall when I'm moving out?
