Kodak Esp 3 printer head problems?

Originally I thought I was simply out of ink so I bought new ink cartridges now it says the printer head is not installed or missing. How can I fix this issue? As this printer has gave me no issues in the past and now I just want to take a sledge hammer to it! Any help welcomed.
